“It has been a joy to my heart.”
At Schreiner University in Kerrville, TX, Glen Rose Brickyard Captain Katarina Young sponsored five Cadets for their first-ever attendance at the Nationals Drill Camp, where three received top awards.
- Daniela Moreno, 14, the youngest at the camp and the daughter of a Marine, started the camp shaking from nerves and in tears but had the will to continue. She finished strong and is eager to continue training into her Senior year.
- Brook-Lynn Riser expressed how much she truly enjoyed the experience. She felt bonded to her team, and meeting and talking to other cadets from other schools was conducive to her growth and will benefit her as she goes back to school.
- Christian Williams enjoyed the technical aspects of the camp and putting into action all that the instructors taught. He’s eager to get back to his team and work together as they become stronger. Christian received the “Most Improved Cadet in Camp” award.
- Logan Barta was proud of the growth she experienced with her team and how they will benefit from it. Though the days were long, she enjoyed the instructions and help from the leaders. Logan received the “Best Female Color Guard” award.
- Taylor Crockett, lively and full of smiles, beamed at how the teamwork and drills helped her grow immensely and develop a strong drive. She looks forward to putting what she learned together with her JROTC program. Taylor received the “Most Motivated Cadet in her Platoon” award.
“Each of these Cadets were so very kind and appreciated the sponsorship from +MPU and how they wouldn’t let us down,” Katarina says. “To me, they already showed they didn’t. I told them their courage to show up was a great step, that they should make sure to stay strong as a team, and that the +MPU team was already proud of them.”
“I, personally, had never seen silent drill and armed drill in person. The little I got to see was such a nice experience,” she adds.
🌹 The Cadets then ventured to the Brickyard in Glen Rose and got to meet with its leadership team. They then performed a demonstration for the local American Legion post. The five of them hope to inspire a JROTC program in Glen Rose!
